Traditional Dalmatian chanson evening with klapas, 7 June, 9 PM

We believe that all major sports, cultural or any other events in Dalmatia should not go without traditional Dalmatian singing groups, 'klapas'. Therefore, Croatia Bol Open is organizing the evening of Dalmation chanson with Klapa Cambi and Klapa Šufit on June 7, 2019, at 21 h (9 PM) on the island of Brač so that our guests from Croatia and foreign countries can enjoy the romantic traditional Dalmatian evening on the promenade in Bol.

Klapa music is a form of traditional a cappella singing in Dalmatia, Croatia. The word 'klapa' translates as 'a group of friends' and traces its roots to littoral church singing. The motifs, in general, celebrate love, wine (grapes), country (homeland) and sea.

Klapa Cambi was founded in 1986 and has since been part of KUD "Cambi" from Kaštel Kambelovac. The name originates from the surname of the noble family Cambi. Klapa Cambi became a widely know in 1991 with its first performance in Omiš at the Dalmatian Klapa Festival. They are the most famous and one of the best in Croatia that has been awarded a number of awards and recognition for many years. They were the absolute winner of the international festival in Verona in 1998, winners of the Grand Prix on the 3rd. Choir Championship in St. Petersburg 2009, only klapa with five wins on the Dalmatian Klapa Omiš Festival, the many award-winning klapa at the festival 'Dalmatinska pisma večeri '1999, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 1998 they received the City of Kastela Award for a total contribution to culture and preservation heritage. The winners are Porin - the largest Croatian music awards and multiple winners of the Šibensko šansone 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. They are the Grand Prix of the Dalmatian Chanson Festival in Sibenik for 2008, and 2009.

In 2011, celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted work, they held a series of spectacular concerts throughout Croatia. A split performance at the Poljud stadium is to be found in front of 15,000 people, making them a klapa that has held an independent concert in front of the most numerous auditoriums ever.

Klapa Šufit was founded by a group of young and talented high school students in 1992 at the gymnasiums' attic. They started with continuous rehearsals, and already in 1994, this group of friends starts to prepare for their first appearance at the Festival of Dalmatian songs in Omiš. Over time, they have been growing into a respectable choir that has performed at numerous festivals, especially Festival in Omiš where they were absolute winners for three consecutive years in a row - 2006, 2007 and 2008. The choir has achieved remarkable performances at similar festivals (for example, award at the festival of klapas "Skradin '96"). That same year, Saša Jakelić (II tenor) accompanied by klapa won the "Grand Prix" at the festival of popular music 'Melodies of the Croatian South - 'Opuzen '96'. In May 1997 Šufit held its first big concert to celebrate their five years anniversary. The concert showed that their performance is truly the one performed by klapa, and by the end of 1997 they were organized as an independent cultural art society called KUD 'Šufit'. The word 'šufit' means 'attic'. That same year the collaboration with the maestro Duško Tambač began, who supported their work.

In 1999 they released their first album 'Good Morning sea' that was followed by a series of promotional concerts in Zagreb and Split that culminated with a big concert at the Split National Theater. From 2006 until today, the klapa is under the artistic guidance of professor Jasminka Šetka. In 2009 they received the award for a remarkable contribution to the Dalmatian singing. But their biggest breakthrough was in 2012 with their hit "Do not touch my love," which became the biggest hit of traditional Damnation singing. On YouTube channel it has more than 28 million views. Today, they are performing in large and small halls all over Croatia and region.
