Mrdeza lost against Cadantu 6:3, 3:6, 2:6, Bondarenko overpowered Lukas

Even though she entered the match well, Tereza Mrdeza eventually lost after an almost 3 hour game against Romanian Alexandra Cadantu. “I had tactics, I knew that I play against an opponent that does not miss a lot but simply first set I played well on the outside, managed to hit some drop shots but I failed to realize the start of the second set. It was physically tough to enter against her high spins and that was the key to my exhaustion. In the second set I started to miss more and what I played in the first was not getting through anymore while she kept her game well. “

Mrdeza will play against Cadantu again tomorrow, but this time in doubles: “We play the doubles tomorrow, against Cadantu and her Indian partner (P.Thombare), we have a good chance and I hope my colleague and I will play a good match”, Mrdeza added.

In an afternoon match, Italian Sara Errani made it to the quarterfinals by beating Olga Saez Larra, a young Spaniard by 7:5, 6:3.

“I feel very well, I have never been to Bol before but it is beautiful here” – said the finalist of Roland Garros in 2012. Even though she is one of the favorites to win the tournament in the general opinion, she commented: “I do not think about being a favorite, I look just a match after a match.” and looking at her rank at a mere 91st place and the plans for this season she added that her wish is to climb up again and that she is working on it.

Last local hope was Tena Lukas from Kastela. However, standing on the other side of the court was Ukrainian Katerina Bondarenko, in all ways a player of a higher caliber, currently better than Tena who showed it by winning 6:0, 6:2.

Tena left the court visibly disappointed.

“It was not my day. I picked the wrong strategy” – said Lukas.

What would you change now?

“I picked the wrong approach. I tried to go for winners but I could get in very little. It would have been better, now I see it, if I had tried to keep the ball in the game longer, mix the game; but now it is unnecessary to comment on that”- said Lukas
